Not everyone has a perfectly manicured lawn, so what should you consider when deciding where to set up your marquee?
Land Conditions:
- A perfectly flat, level area is not necessary, but it does make things easier. If you’re unsure, try placing some garden furniture on the spot you plan to use and see how stable it feels.
- Slopes are preferable to uneven or bumpy surfaces. A marquee can be set up on a slight slope without issue, but very uneven terrain might present challenges. If the ground is sloped, avoid raising the dining tables, as this will leave the chairs at the wrong height.
- Avoid waterlogged areas, especially in winter, to prevent dampness and muddy conditions inside the marquee.
- Our DIY marquees can be erected on hard surfaces, soft ground, or a combination of both, as long as there is no significant height difference between the surfaces.
Positioning the Marquee in Your Garden:
- Marquees are rectangular or square, so keep this in mind when measuring your available space.
- Flower beds, small trees, and bushes can be incorporated into the marquee, often creating an attractive feature. However, remember that these will reduce the available space inside.
- In winter, it’s best to place the marquee close to, or even connected to, your house to provide easy access for guests.
- Consider having two layout options: one closer to the house for bad weather and one set further away for good weather.
- If you’re hosting a smaller event in a large garden, positioning the marquee across the garden to create a courtyard at the front can help keep guests together and prevent the space from feeling too spread out.
